Director of Public Prosecutions, David Leung Cheuk-yin, SC, has formally resigned this week and he will leave the prosecutions division on December 31, Headline Daily, sister paper of The Standard, reports in an exclusive story today.
In an email sent to colleagues, Leung said he had worked in the division for 25 years and enjoyed the work and relationship with colleagues.
But he said in the email that he could not agree with the Secretary of Justice, and that the situation has not improved over time, which is not conducive to the smooth operation of the division.
Leung was appointed to his current role in 2017. He was admitted as solicitor in Hong Kong in 1992 and called to the Bar in 1998.
