The newly renovated Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre will host a vibrant Fun Day this weekend, June 21 to 22, to mark its grand reopening.
Organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the event will run from 1pm to 5.30pm daily, offering a mix of performances, workshops, and interactive activities for all ages.
The festivities will showcase a dynamic blend of Chinese and Western arts, featuring performances by acclaimed local groups.
Highlights include a lion dance by Buddhist Ho Nam Kam Secondary School’s award-winning team, a high-energy Chinese drum show by the Hong Kong Drum Ensemble, and street dance acts by Youth Outreach’s School of Hip Hop.
Young musicians from Fountain de Chopin will present jazz renditions, while other talents curated by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association will perform diverse musical pieces.
The official opening ceremony on June 22 at 1pm in the center’s theatre will kick off with a lion dance and Chinese drum spectacle, open to the public.
Meanwhile, attendees can dive into theatre arts through workshops like "One Day in the Theatre" by venue partner Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection, where participants can try acting or backstage roles, culminating in a same-day showcase.
The group will also present the "Re-imagine Theatre" exhibition, inviting visitors to explore theatrical storytelling from a protagonist’s perspective.
On June 21, a stage tour will unveil the centre’s upgraded technical facilities, offering a glimpse into the mechanics of stage productions.
