Directed by Shiona Carson, the annual gala performance was first aired on 28th and 29th of November, with more than 2,600 views with audiences stretching as far as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the UK. It adapted the 2000 years old story rewritten for the stage by the Bard over four hundred years ago and transported it into becoming a sci-fi flick set in the year 3030. The love, hate, power and politics seem all timeless, transcending the time tunnel freely before our very eyes and in our imagination.
Aside from the creative story plot, its production is also a major achievement for S4A and even worldwide, as this movie-length performance was filmed separately at home by the children and their family under Covid-19.
Each family had received a DIY box of not just costumes, wigs, makeup and props, but also lights, microphones, camera stands and a green screen. They then used the materials to set up a makeshift movie set in their living room or bedroom.
All files were sent back to S4A along with the music files, and the production team got to work going through every file and patching them together.
This innovative planning has been in the works since March this year when S4A was instructed not to make contact with the children. The massive accomplishment proves that despite the stress of the covid-19 pandemic, the arts industry can still move with the times to ensure the show can go on, as well as showcasing a true demonstration of ‘Destiny in Overselves’.
