Ice hockey neck guards to be worn by all players

Neck guards are now required for all international hockey games after the death of former NHL player Adam Johnson in England.

The International Ice Hockey Federation Council has mandated the use of neck laceration protectors at all levels of competitions, including the Winter Olympics.

Johnson, 29, died on October 28 after his neck was cut by an opposing player's skate blade during an on-ice collision in a UK tournament.

NHL players including Tyler Bertuzzi of the Toronto Maple Leafs have worn the guards on a voluntary basis.
