Christy Yiu faster the second time around at world championships

Hong Kong marathoner Christy Yiu Kit-ching successfully competed at the world championships for a second time.

Yiu, 34, finished the race in Eugene, Oregon in two hours, 43 minutes and 13 seconds - good for 29th place. That was an improvement on her time of 2:43:28 when she ran the marathon at the 2015 world championships in Beijing.

Gotytom Gebreslase won in a championship-record time of 2:18:11 to claim a second marathon title for Ethiopia after Tamirat Tola triumphed in the men's event on Sunday.

"Tola's win motivated me a lot," said Gebreslase.

Meanwhile, three Japanese athletes and one coach tested positive for Covid, taking the total number of cases in the delegation up to 15.
