Residents near Choi Ming Court and Kin Ming Estate in Tseung Kwan O complain that a nearby hillside, treated as a private backyard, is constantly noisy with square dancing, karaoke, mahjong, loud qigong shouting, and other activities from early morning.
A man living in the area posted a video on the Tseung Kwan O main Facebook group on March 16, saying he is woken every morning around 10am by loud square dancing music from elderly women on the hill behind Choi Ming Court and Kin Ming Estate.
He works late, sleeps around 1am and must rise early for work, pleading for the dancers to keep the volume down out of consideration for neighbours.
The clip shows two women in white shoes dancing energetically to strong-beat music, though trees block clear views. Netizens called the soundtrack noisy and unpleasant.
Other locals revealed the hill has become a free-for-all spot: people sing karaoke, play mahjong, shout while practicing qi gong, and even cultivate small plots.
One man reportedly starts yelling qigong exercises at 8am, moving locations when complained about—once from the Choi Ming to Kin Ming area—and has “evolved” to shouting while walking. Previously he began at 6.15am daily.
Several residents said they have confronted him, including one whose husband argued with him on a Sunday morning at around 7am, ruining rare rest time.
The original poster added that the man once practiced with a child and returned after arguments, showing no sign of stopping.
