Recent missile exchanges between Iran and Israel have spilled tension into the region, briefly affecting Dubai with air-raid sirens and overflights.

Several Hong Kong visitors, including one whose return flight was canceled after the airport temporarily closed, found themselves unexpectedly extended in the city until early March.

Travelers described waking to piercing alarms in the middle of the night and witnessing bright streaks in the sky, yet they noted that hotel guests gathered in lobbies without panic, maintaining order and even offering quiet smiles of reassurance to one another.

The most surprising scenes came from local supermarkets and convenience stores.

Expecting empty shelves and chaotic panic buying—similar to what often occurs in Hong Kong during typhoons or heavy rain—Hong Kongers instead found fully stocked aisles of water, milk, bread, rice, fresh meat, fish, snacks, and chocolate.

Residents shopped at a leisurely pace, with one local woman calmly telling a visitor not to worry because everything was fine.

Videos and photos shared online captured long receipts from relaxed grocery runs and streets where malls, restaurants, and delivery services operated as usual despite occasional booms in the distance.

The contrast left many Hong Kongers reflecting on cultural differences in crisis response and expressing deep appreciation for everyday peace back home, with several saying the experience made them value Hong Kong’s safety even more and hope to return soon without further incident.
