The three-day Global Prosperity Summit, organized by the Savantas Policy Institute founded by Executive Council convener Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, brought together some 200 thought leaders and representatives from around the world.
The mega event featured a Young Leaders' forum before concluding yesterday, which provided a platform for young business leaders and academics from across Asia to share their insights.
The forum - designed to facilitate exchange and cooperation among enterprises and experts from Hong Kong and throughout Asia - was moderated by assistant professor in philosophy at the University of Hong Kong Brian Wong Yue-shun and featured panelists including Yoma Strategic Holdings chief executive officer Melvyn Pun Chi-tung and Regional Director of Sunwah Group in Asean Jesse Choi Cheuk-sze.
During the forum, participants said Hong Kong should not view itself as in competition with other cities or countries, particularly Singapore.
Instead, they said the SAR's strength lies in its role as the gateway to the mainland Chinese market and as a platform for foreign enterprises to enter the region, and the city should leverage this advantage.
Ip, the founder of the summit, said: "[The summit] has created a pioneering platform for candid exchange among experts and leaders worldwide. The Young Leaders' forum served as a fertile new meeting ground for Asia's next-generation of entrepreneurs and talent. We definitely will bring more objective and insightful minds from business, academia, the investment community, think tanks and other sectors to come together in Hong Kong in the future, to they can provide their unique perspectives and open up new horizons for global prosperity."
