Residents can book an appointment for a smart HKID card renewal up to 96 working days in advance from tomorrow.
The Immigration Department said yesterday the period for Registration of Persons services appointment bookings will be extended from 24 working days to 96 working days.
Also from tomorrow, people aged 11 or 18 years old can replace ID cards during extended service hours at four designated Registration of Persons Offices in Wan Chai, Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong and Tuen Mun.
Their opening hours have been extended from 8 am to
10 pm Mondays to Saturdays from closing times of 4.30 pm on weekdays and 12.30 pm on Saturdays.
The extended hours at the four offices have been in place since March 6 for the processing of applications for replacement of new smart ID cards made after the end of the territory-wide identity card replacement exercise.
But authorities decided to let 11 or 18-year-olds book appointments to replace their ID cards during the extended hours due to an upsurge in demand since the resumption of travel.
"The above arrangement is only applicable to applicants already in possession of HKID cards applying for replacements. Applicants reaching 11 or 18 years of age who have never registered for an ID card should make an appointment booking during normal ROP service hours for first registration of identity card," the department said.
Apart from bookings to replace HKID cards at the four offices during the extended hours, appointments can be made in the Fo Tan and Yuen Long offices during normal hours -
9 am to 12.45 pm and 2 pm to 4.30 pm Mondays to Fridays, and 9 am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays.
