Trouble afoot for propery tycoon

Central Station | 21 May 2020

If not for the stringent rules of this year's "two sessions," property tycoon Peter Lee Ka-kit might not have fallen and broken his foot whilst carrying luggage.

The chairman and managing director of Henderson Land Development was injured while moving his luggage in the course of flying from Shenzhen to Beijing yesterday for the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference meeting.

Assistants were banned from this year's meeting due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lee will be attending the meeting today in a wheelchair.

A Henderson spokesman said Lee sustained a bone fracture but did not need to undergo any surgeries, adding that the CPPCC secretariat has arranged for the best doctors to treat him.

Meanwhile, CPPCC member and CK Hutchison chairman and group comanaging director Victor Li Tzar-kuoi, son of property tycoon Li Ka-shing, will be absent from the meeting. Sources said he was suffering from a fever and chose to remain at home.
