Busmen snare $2 spitter

A bus driver was spat at when he confronted a Vietnamese man who tried to pay the elderly concessionary fare of HK$2 - when he was just 55 years old.

The man, a Hong Kong ID card holder, allegedly tossed a HK$2 coin into the toll box as he boarded the Causeway Bay-bound bus 914 in Sham Shui Po on Saturday afternoon, instead of paying the normal bus fare of HK$9.8.

The 53-year-old bus driver confronted him when he failed to present documents to prove his age, demanding he pay the rest of the fare. But the man refused and spat at the bus driver before fleeing. The driver and his off-duty colleagues chased after the man and subdued him. He was later handed over to the police.

The bus driver, who was struggling with the suspect, suffered injuries and was sent to hospital for treatment. The man was arrested for common assault.
