Some construction firms are eyeing international expansion for modular integrated construction technology, or MiC, as more Hong Kong projects adopt the method and regulatory support continues to grow.
The Hong Kong government has been actively promoting MiC in recent years to boost productivity and cost efficiency, with over 100 public and private projects now using the approach.
Ben Poon Chun-ming, project director of China State Hailong Construction Technology – who also serves as vice chairman of the Hong Kong Modular Integrated Construction Manufacturer Association – said Hong Kong’s certification scheme for MiC manufacturers is helping standardize the industry.
His company was among the first to be certified, a milestone he believes strengthens its competitive edge both in Hong Kong and abroad.
Starry Lee Wai-king, Hong Kong's sole delegate to the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said promoting China’s MiC capabilities internationally could help “tell China’s story well.”
