Law meets mainland officials to boost sports, culture ties

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui met with top mainland officials in Beijing yesterday to discuss strengthening sports collaboration and cultural exchanges as well as preparations for the upcoming National Games.

Law and her delegation first met with Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, according to a WeChat post of the office.

Zhou Ji, deputy director of the office, also attended the meeting.

Separately, Law held talks with Gao Zhidan, director of the State General Administration of Sports, on deepening cooperation in sports and leveraging the 15th National Games to further integrate Hong Kong into the Greater Bay Area development.

Gao praised Hong Kong's progress in sports and reaffirmed Beijing's support for the city in utilizing its unique advantages under one country, two systems.

He emphasized that the National Games, co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, present a key opportunity to enhance collaboration and boost regional development.

Law expressed gratitude for the central government's long-standing support and said the Hong Kong government will mobilize resources to ensure the success of the event.

She added that it will serve as a platform to strengthen ties with the mainland and advance Hong Kong's sports industry.

Law arrived in Beijing on Tuesday night for a four-day visit, during which she is also scheduled to meet with officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the China Film Administration and other cultural institutions. She will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
