Free MTR rides on track for seniors

The elderly can enjoy free rides on the MTR, Light Rail and MTR buses on November 17 to celebrate "Senior Citizens Day," according to MTR Corp's latest announcement.

Citizens aged over 65 will be able to take MTR and Light Rail train rides and MTR bus rides for free that Sunday by using their JoyYou Card, Elder Octopus card or personalized Octopus card.

Eligible passengers can simply tap their cards as usual and no fare will be charged, the rail operator said.

The promotion does not apply to Airport Express, cross-boundary journeys on the East Rail Line and high-speed rail. Additionally, local companies and shops will offer special concessions to Senior Citizen Card holders on the day.

Golden Harvest Cinemas are offering HK$30 movie tickets for Senior Citizen Card holders while Chinese restaurant Victoria Harbour Restaurant will waive tea charges. Tam Jai Yunnan Mixian will give seniors an HK$8 discount with free drinks.
