$800m boost for HKU's Landmark project

Progress on the establishment of the University of Hong Kong's Tech Landmark has received twin supercharges with a HK$500 million donation from the Kuok Group and another of HK$300 million from the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund.

Tech Landmark is to serve as the nerve center of the HKU InnoTech initiative.

It will be located in the center of the campus with 45,000 square meters of floor space spread around three towers to be completed in 2024.

They will house 12 new institutes focusing on interdisciplinary studies including global poverty mitigation, geriatric science and gerontechnology, materials and energy, quantum science, materials and energy, smart cities and biomedical engineering.

David Mong Tak-yeung, chairman of the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, said Tech Landmark is set to become a "globally impactful community at the forefront of cutting-edge research in science and technologies, where the world's top talents will convene."
