Chairman's wife joins the 'buyers'

The wife of Consumer Council chairman Paul Lam Ting-kwok has posed as a customer helping to investigate overseas property sales.

The Consumer Council has sent people to exhibitions and agencies on mysterious visits to better understand how properties are sold.

Noting that those who were picked to be undercover customers formed an "elite team" to look more convincing, Lam revealed in a televised interview that his wife was also among the "customers" shown properties in Malaysia by the agents.

Lam recalled his wife, who is also a lawyer, sharing her experience enthusiastically afterward.

"She said the agents were not dishonest and what they said was reasonable."

But he jokingly said that the mysterious customers did not buy the properties, as the Consumer Council was too poor to do so.
