Woman killed, husband injured after car crashes into checkpoint at HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

A 62-year-old woman died and her 67-year-old husband was injured after their car crashed into a checkpoint kiosk and overturned at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong port early on Monday, police said.

The incident occurred around 5am when the private car, returning to Hong Kong via the bridge, lost control at the clearance plaza and hit check kiosk No 10 of the Immigration Department before overturning. The couple, both aged about 60, were initially trapped inside.

Firefighters and paramedics rescued the pair. The woman, surnamed Yeung, was unconscious and underwent CPR before being rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital. She was covered in blood during transport and was pronounced dead at 6.16am. The man, surnamed Miu, was conscious and also taken to hospital. He tested zero on a breathalyzer test.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
