A deadly traffic accident in northern Thailand has uncovered evidence that may link the case to a suspected cross-border telecom fraud operation, according to local police.
Three people were killed early Thursday morning when a pickup truck with Bangkok plates veered off a road in Kamphaeng Phet province and crashed into a tree. The dead included a 57-year-old Thai driver and two Chinese passengers.
During the recovery operation, police found 23 smartphones and documents in a backpack that listed communication devices grouped under labels such as "Miami" and "Texas." Authorities said this labeling method was consistent with practices used by scam syndicates to manage operations and assign tasks.

Immigration police later revealed the vehicle had been placed on a watchlist in November last year on suspicion of transporting foreigners across borders. Police believe the truck may have been part of a "black transport line" ferrying people to border areas for transfer to scam compounds in neighboring countries.
Police are investigating the case as organized crime, checking the vehicle's registration and conducting forensic analysis on the seized phones and documents to trace the network's operators and funding.
