At 11.17am, the 79-year-old victim was reportedly attacked outside COSCO Tower on Wing Lok Street.
According to sources, the man had just got out of a car on Connaught Road Central and was on his way to his office at Central Plaza when a suspect approached him from behind and stabbed him. He sustained slash wounds to the wrist, left calf and left thigh, and collapsed at the scene.
Passersby called police after finding the injured man. Emergency services arrived shortly after and treated him at the scene. He was conscious but bleeding before being taken to Queen Mary Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Sources said the victim is the head of a securities firm and lives in the Mid-Levels area. He told police he did not know the attacker and had no known financial disputes or conflicts.
Bloodstains were seen near a staircase outside the building, according to images circulating online. Officers cordoned off the area and carried out searches, including deploying police dogs in nearby areas such as Sheung Wan MTR station, but no arrest has been made.
Police have classified the case as wounding and are investigating. They are searching for a man believed to be about 50 years old, described as a Chinese national wearing a white top, black trousers and a face mask.
