The Transport Department recorded an 80 percent booking rate for the four weeks ending April 10 after fully implementing the online appointment system for counter services for direct issuance of Hong Kong full driving licences on Monday.
The department has raised the daily booking quota to 550 slots per working day and expanded the service to cover all four licensing offices across the city. The “Online Same-day Queue Ticket” arrangement is ceased on the same day.
Speaking on a radio program, Assistant Commissioner of the department Amy Lee Mei-fung noted that booking slots were released in batches between last Tuesday and Friday, and that booking rates have reached 80 percent for the four weeks from today.
She said that the remaining slots are still available for the final week of this month, according to system checks conducted this morning.
Lee noted that the online appointment system has been operating steadily and smoothly, with a simplified process that allows applicants to complete their reservations by following the system’s instructions. The entire booking procedure takes no longer than 10 minutes at most, she added.
To safeguard security and prevent snapping up bookings, the department has rolled out online security measures, including mandatory one-time password verification via a valid email address, as well as a human-machine verification mechanism.
Lee also advised applicants to prepare all required documents in advance to speed up the booking process.
