Residents urged to keep windows shut as Mai Po recycling site fire sends thick black smoke

A fire erupted on Sunday at a recycling site in Siu Hum Tsuen, Mai Po, prompting the Fire Services Department to urge nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed and remain calm due to drifting smoke and strong odors.

The fire was first reported at 3.41pm. Photos from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky, visible from a considerable distance. 

Authorities said the affected site covers about 20,000 square feet and is primarily used to store recycled electronic products and components.
