A 60-year-old female's body was discovered floating in the waters roughly 4 to 5 meters offshore from Sai Kung New Public Pier at around 6am on Sunday, after a passerby made a report to police.
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene and retrieved the woman from the sea after receiving reports, but she was pronounced dead after a preliminary on-site examination.
The body was transported to the marine police base. Police have checked relevant records and found no open case or missing person reports connected to the deceased.
It is reported that the woman was wearing a blue jacket and blue trousers, with a JoyYou Card found in her trousers pocket. The body was bloated and decomposed.
Investigators also noted that the body was bound with nylon ropes attached to three plastic bags containing five bricks.
Police said the case is suspicious and have referred it to the District Investigation Team of Wong Tai Sin for investigation.
