Four medium goods vehicles parked in Tuen Mun were found drained of diesel overnight, with losses estimated at about HK$30,000, as fuel prices continue to rise.
Police received a report at around 8am on Wednesday from a driver who discovered that the fuel tank of his vehicle, parked on Wang Fat Street, had been emptied.
Officers arriving at the scene found that three other medium-sized trucks parked nearby had also been targeted.
According to police, one vehicle had 1,400 liters of diesel stolen from its two fuel tanks, while another truck also lost 1,400 liters from both tanks.
A third truck had about 450 liters siphoned from its right tank, while the fourth vehicle was found completely drained, with the right tank cap left open.
Authorities estimate the total value of the stolen diesel at more than HK$30,000 and suspect the fuel may have been taken for resale on the black market.
Sources said the 59-year-old owner, surnamed Kam, had parked his truck on Wang Fat Street overnight with both tanks full, only to discover them empty with the caps opened the following morning.
Police classified the case as theft and have referred it to the Tuen Mun District Investigation Team for follow-up.
No arrests have been made so far.
