Police received a report at about 1.40pm that a suspected grenade had been found on a slope outside 43A Stubbs Road. Officers cordoned off the area within a 50-meter radius while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau (EOD) was called in to handle the device.
Sources said the object, about the size of a lemon, was later confirmed to be a British No. 36M grenade dating back to World War II and believed to have been left behind by British forces stationed in Hong Kong.
The cordon was later expanded to 100 meters and Stubbs Road between Stubbs Road and Kennedy Road was temporarily closed.
EOD officers carried out a controlled detonation at around 2.55pm. No injuries were reported and no evacuation was required.
After the detonation, small debris was scattered onto the nearby slope. Officers later conducted safety checks before the cordon was lifted.
The Transport Department said all lanes of Stubbs Road near The Valley View were temporarily closed during the incident before traffic resumed with a two-way flow on a single lane.
