Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who also oversees Hong Kong and Macau affairs, attended a meeting with Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress this morning.

Ding stated that executive-led governance is a shared responsibility of all sectors of Hong Kong society, and mentioned that the Legislative Council has much to offer under executive-led governance. He hoped that Legislative Council president Starry Lee Wai-king would lead the exploration, research, and practice of the system.
Ding attended the meeting in the Hong Kong Hall of the Great Hall of the People in the morning. Officials including Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office; Xu Qifang, Deputy Director of the HKMAO in charge of daily operations; and Zhou Ji, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, also participated.
Starry Lee, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the Legislative Council, stated at the meeting that Hong Kong will firmly uphold the executive-led system.
She stated that Legislative Council members are broadly representative, possess abundant resources and networks, and have the conditions and responsibility to proactively implement the central government's requirements and better integrate into the overall development of the country.
Ding Xuexiang stated that under the new circumstances, President Xi Jinping has put forward new requirements and challenges for Hong Kong's governance in accordance with the law and for good governance, and emphasized that executive-led governance is the common responsibility of all sectors of Hong Kong society.
