Since 1975, the Club and its Charities Trust has donated over HK$240 million to The Community Chest. In 1986, it contributed to an operational endowment fund that supports the Chest’s administrative expenses. It also helped the Chest acquire and fit out a new office in 1999, which the Chest uses for a nominal charge of HK$1 a year. These initiatives enable the Chest to channel 100% of the donations it receives to beneficiaries. Since the repeal of the entertainments tax in 1993, the Club has been donating to the Chest an amount equivalent to the former tax on racecourse admissions. To date, these contributions have exceeded HK$120 million.
This half-century of support demonstrates the Club’s commitment to the betterment of our society. The Club’s support for The Community Chest, like all of its charity and community donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and responsible sports wagering generate substantial tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.
