Mainland woman faces additional charges over forging degree for HK studying 

A mainland woman accused of using fake qualifications to apply for study in Hong Kong will face additional charges for attempting to obtain services by deception, the prosecution disclosed on Tuesday.

The case was heard this morning at the Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts, and the defendant is not required to enter a plea at this stage.

The 32-year-old defendant, who holds an Exit-entry Permit for Traveling to and from Hong Kong and Macao, commonly known as a “two-way permit,” was previously charged with making a false statement for the purpose of obtaining an entry permit.

She is suspected of making a statement she knew to be false or did not believe to be true in 2021, claiming she had attended the University of Texas at Austin from September 2014 to June 2016.

It is expected that an additional charge of attempting to obtain services by deception will be brought. An application was made to adjourn the case until March 6 for further proceedings.

Magistrate Cheang Kei-hong approved the adjournment, and the defendant was granted continued bail under the original conditions while awaiting further proceedings.
