Nearly 600 members of the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) community participated in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 to demonstrate the university’s commitment to teamwork and inclusion.
The “CityUHK Marathon Team” brought together management staff, faculty, students, and alumni for the event on Sunday. The delegation included approximately 180 participants in the full marathon, 180 in the half marathon, and more than 220 in the 10km race.
Council Chairman Michael Ngai and other senior management members joined the 10km event, running alongside students, alumni, and colleagues.
For Ngai, it was his first time representing CityUHK in the marathon. “Running alongside classmates and colleagues or hearing cheers from our support team along the route, every step felt far from solitary,” he said.
He hopes the CityUHK community will continue to embrace the discipline and perseverance fostered by running as they move forward together toward shared goals.
CityUHK continued its Inclusive Run tradition this year, pairing 33 participants — CityUHK runners and students with special educational needs from Mary Rose School and TWGHs Chi-Li Pao School — to complete the race together.
The teams trained for three months leading up to the event, building trust and teamwork. On race day, they crossed the finish line hand in hand, completing the 10km race together.
Nearly 100 students, staff, and alumni formed cheering squads at various points along the route, while the university set up a support booth in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. The booth provided baggage storage, physiotherapy support, and refreshments, serving as a gathering hub for the CityUHK community.
