An elderly man splashed corrosive liquid on his much younger wife during a breakfast meeting to discuss divorce at a restaurant in Kingswood Villa, Tin Shui Wai, on Tuesday morning, injuring both her and her female friend. He then swallowed sleeping pills and collapsed.
The incident occurred around 9am today, when the 70-year-old man, surnamed Leung, met his 51-year-old wife, surnamed Ma, and her 69-year-old friend, surnamed Tsui, at the restaurant.
The couple, previously living together in Lau Fau Shan, had separated last year due to relationship issues, with Ma moving out.
Upon seeing his wife, Leung suddenly threw an unknown liquid from a bottle at her, causing injuries to her hand. Tsui's right hand was also affected. Immediately after, Leung drank the contents of another bottle, believed to be sleeping pills, and lost consciousness.
Restaurant staff called police. All three were taken to Tin Shui Wai Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested Leung for "throwing corrosive fluid with intent to do grievous bodily harm."
The case is being handled by Yuen Long District Crime Squad Team 7.
