The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (“SPCA”) is proud to announce a historic step forward in pet-inclusivity as Dogathon 2026 becomes the first event in Hong Kong’s history to allow small-to-medium-sized pet dogs to ride on MTR, not only the light rail but also the heavy rail network, thanks to a special 1-day travel arrangement offered by MTR Corporation. In addition, KMB will provide dedicated Pet Bus service, providing safe and convenient transportation for participants and their furry companions.
Dogathon 2026 — the flagship annual charity walk and pet festival proudly presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, SPCA’s trusted nutrition partner — will take place on 1 March 2026 at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, bringing together over 3,000 participants and their canine companions for a meaningful journey under the theme: “A Magical Journey for Paws & Purpose.
MTR Opens to Pet Dogs on “SPCA Dogathon 2026”
To promote an inclusive community, for the first time ever in Hong Kong, small-to-medium-sized dogs will be allowed to travel on MTR network1, exclusively for holders of “SPCA Dogathon – 1-Day MTR Woof Pass” (1 Day Pass). With the 1 Day Pass, owners and their dogs can enjoy unlimited rides on 1 March 2026, marking a milestone in local transport history. All proceeds after cost from the SPCA Dogathon – 1 Day MTR Woof Pass will be donated to SPCA for animals in need.

How It Works:
- Participants of the “SPCA Dogathon 2026” who wish to travel with their dogs on the event day must register and donate HK$90 to SPCA by 20 February 2026 to obtain the “SPCA Dogathon – 1 Day MTR Woof Pass”, which will be issued as a wristband (Quota: 1,200);
- Upon successful registration, participants will be notified to collect the wristband. The wristband must be worn all time during the event day for identification as a 1 Day Pass holder;
- On 1 March 2026, each 1 Day Pass holder may bring one dog per ride into the MTR network. Passengers are required to pay their fare as usual;
- Before entering the MTR network, dogs must be placed in a fully enclosed carrier or backpack for dogs that complies with the size requirements of MTR’s Conditions of Carriage of Luggage; Using any wheeled pet strollers to transport dogs in the MTR network is not permitted;
- Pass holders with dogs can only board and alight from the last car of MTR trains and must remain in the last car for the entire journey;

As a non-profit organisation that relies on public support for 99% of its funding, the SPCA depends heavily on events like Dogathon to sustain its critical services. Every year, over 4,000 animals count on the SPCA for rescue, medical care, and rehoming — and Dogathon helps make that possible.
Driving a More Pet-Inclusive Hong Kong
As the number of pet owners in Hong Kong continues to grow, the SPCA remains committed to fostering a pet-inclusive culture built on mutual respect between pet owners and non-pet owners. To support this vision, the SPCA provides pet-inclusive training to frontline staff across various sectors — including major transport providers such as KMB and MTR, as well as pet-welcoming venues like Infinitus Plaza and Hang Seng Bank.
Looking ahead, with the government set to introduce licensing procedures for pet-friendly restaurants, the SPCA will continue to offer training and consultation services to businesses. By equipping teams with the knowledge and tools to welcome animals responsibly, the SPCA aims to help build a harmonious, pet-friendly environment across Hong Kong — and set businesses up for long-term success.
