Water supply suspension in Fanling areas on Jan 10-11 for permanent pipe connection

Following last year's bitumen contamination in drinking water at Queen's Hill Estate and nearby areas, the Water Supplies Department will suspend supply overnight from January 10 to 11 to connect a new permanent underground pipe, replacing a temporary exposed one along Ping Che Road.

The suspension affects Queen's Hill Estate, Shan Lai Court, and villages along Sha Tau Kok Road (from Hung Leng Tsuen to Sha Tau Kok Town), Ping Che Road (from Hung Leng Tsuen to Wun Chuen Sin Koon), Ng Chow Road, Wo Keng Shan Road, and Luk Keng areas—including 68 villages.

Supply stops from 10pm on January 10 to 8am on January 11. Thanks to building storage tanks, the actual disruption at Queen's Hill Estate and Shan Lai Court is shortened to 11pm to 7am.

Temporary water was provided via tanks placed in estates and rural areas (by midday January 10), plus bottled water for remote villages, in coordination with the Housing Department and North District Office.

Authorities notified the district council, rural committees, and care teams; leaflets were distributed, notices were posted, and visits were made to vulnerable residents and institutions.

Before resumption, pipes were flushed for clear water. Initial milky or turbid appearance is normal due to air bubbles—run tap for minutes or let settle.
