Mercedes driver flees Prince Edward crash scene; suspected drugs found in vehicle

A Mercedes driver fled on foot after crashing into a Volvo at an intersection in Prince Edward in the early hours of Tuesday, following an attempt to evade a police checkpoint. Suspected drugs were later found in the abandoned Mercedes.

The collision happened at the junction of Boundary Street and Nathan Road at around 1am. The male driver of the Volvo was injured and taken to Kwong Wah Hospital.

Police said they had set up a roadblock on Tai Po Road near Wong Chuk Street earlier. A Mercedes was stopped for checks, but its driver suddenly sped off after handing over his documents.

The Mercedes reportedly ran a red light at the junction of Tai Po Road and Boundary Street before colliding with the Volvo, which was traveling along Boundary Street toward Kowloon City.

After the impact, the Volvo mounted a pedestrian crossing on Nathan Road. The Mercedes spun around and mounted a pavement, after which the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Officers later found suspected drugs inside the Mercedes.

The Volvo sustained serious front-end damage with its hood crumpled and bumper detached. The Mercedes had damage to its right-side door.

Police are investigating the incident and searching for the driver of the Mercedes.
