A 63-year-old truck driver was arrested on Monday for suspected drink driving after being struck by his own vehicle in Sai Wan when he reportedly failed to engage the handbrake.
The incident occurred at around 3pm outside the Western Wholesale Food Market. The driver, Chan, was said to have stepped out of his truck to swipe his card at the exit gate when the vehicle rolled forward, pinning him between the truck and a security kiosk.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and freed Chan from the gap. Police officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on him and immediately conducted a breath test, which showed his alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
Chan was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in custody for further investigation.
Initial reports indicate the truck moved because the handbrake had not been applied.
