Local residents continue to deliver emergency supplies to the temporary shelters on Thursday morning following the No 5 tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.
Many locals brought winter clothing, blankets, bottled water and food to assist and support those taking refuge. People at the shelter consoled and supported each other during this difficult time.
At noon, numerous locals and citizens were distributing lunch to the evacuated residents in an orderly manner.
The Tai Po District Office (TPDO) has opened eight temporary shelters for residents in need, at CCC Fung Leung Kit Memorial Secondary School, a local surnamed Li, delivered food to firefighters and other frontline staff.
“I believe everyone needs support, especially since I’m also from Tai Po.”
Supplies were arriving in trucks, and once a shelter had enough, volunteers helped transport items to others in need.
A student, surnamed Chiang, said he has been at the sports center helping out since early last night.
“I have classes later, but since I am living in Kwong Fuk Estate, which is my community, I’m eager to do my part,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Community Chest of Hong Kong has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured.
They have announced plans to set up a relief fund of HK$ 50 million to provide emergency financial assistance to families and individuals affected by the fire.
During the Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk for Millions 2025/2026 - Central Kowloon Bypass (Yau Ma Tei Section) on Sunday (Nov 30), the funds raised will be fully donated to the new relief fund, they added.
The group will also distribute condolence payments to each family of the deceased through the Social Welfare Department. They will also collaborate with the assessment centers of the Rainbow Fund in Tai Po and North District to assist affected people in applying for the relief funds.
