Hong Kong has never lacked passion for basketball – from packed street courts to roaring school gyms, the city lives and breathes the game. Beneath that energy lies a deep well of young talent that has always believed it belongs on the global stage.
Now, thanks to the three-year Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme, Hong Kong’s young hopefuls will have a new opportunity to develop their talent. Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme aims to reach over 32,000 participants, including 660 coaches, spanning grassroots outreach to elite development.

A key initiative is the Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme: HKFYG Hustle 5, officially launched in early November. Organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in partnership with EASL Future Champions, the programme will offer regular district-level training and elite development for young people aged 12 to 16. Drawing on global resources and professional-level coaching it will bring international-standard five-on-five drills, coach certification, overseas exchanges and high-level competition to the city.
At the launch ceremony, local basketball professionals coached teens on tactical sharpness and mental resilience. EASL representatives and international coaches also discussed how data-driven analytics and personalised mentoring can elevate local coaching standards and inject fresh momentum into the city’s basketball ecosystem.
The Club has long been dedicated to sports development, investing both in facilities and programmes to promote sport at all levels – from grassroots to elite athletes, and from kindergarten children to senior citizens. Jessie is hopeful this new programme will nurture future basketball stars and inspire even more young people with a passion for the game.
