The Education Bureau (EDB) on Thursday released this year’s results of the Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA), reporting that students across Primary 3, Primary 6 and Secondary 3 maintained steady performance levels comparable to previous years.
According to the report submitted by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), students continued to meet basic competency standards in the three core subjects — Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics.
For Primary 3, the percentage of students achieving basic competencies in all three subjects improved compared with last year. English recorded the most notable rise, reaching 83.2 percent, an increase of 4.5 percentage points.
Primary 6 students, whose TSA is conducted biennially, also showed gains. The pass rate for English climbed to 70.2 percent, up 5.9 percentage points from 2023. Mathematics edged upward to 79 percent, while Chinese saw a slight decrease to 70.5 percent.
At the Secondary 3 level, the proportion of students meeting basic competency rose to 78 percent in Chinese and 68.8 percent in English. Mathematics recorded a small decline, dropping to 78.2 percent.
An EDB spokesman said the bureau was encouraged by feedback from schools, noting that most agree the TSA reports offer practical analyses of student performance.
These insights, when paired with internal assessment data, can help schools refine curriculum planning and teaching strategies, the spokesman added.
The bureau said it will continue working with stakeholders to strengthen support for schools and further develop teaching and learning resources, including exploring the use of artificial intelligence in its resource repository.
