The annual gathering, which sets the direction and governance of international equestrian sport, is being held in Hong Kong from Tuesday (Nov 4) to Friday(Nov 7) with support from the Jockey Club and the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China.
More than 240 representatives from over 70 countries and regions attended the opening event, including FEI President Ingmar De Vos and Secretary General Sabrina Ibáñez.
Senior Jockey Club officials, led by chairman Martin Liao Cheng-kong, deputy chairman Lester Huang and CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, also joined the reception.
“We are honored that the FEI has chosen Hong Kong to host this year’s General Assembly,” Liao said. “Just like the Federation, the Club is a global leader in horse sports. From grassroots riding schools to elite competition, we are committed to nurturing equestrian excellence.”
Liao highlighted the Club’s investment in new facilities in Conghua, Guangzhou, which will stage world-class racing beginning next October, and its long-standing role in supporting major international events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
The club also provided technical support for the equestrian events of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The Club has committed more than HK$500 million to support the Hong Kong and Guangdong competition regions at this year’s 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG). It is sole Partner Sponsor for the Hong Kong competition region and will provide technical support for the equestrian events in the Guangdong competition region as well as deploy an expert team to provide support and equipment that aligns with the highest standards.

Martin Liao said the FEI General Assembly would provide ample opportunities for the global equestrian community to reconnect, while showcasing Hong Kong’s capabilities as an international hub.
