Chapman To bites into Apple staff plight

Online media platform Chapman To's Late Show is hiring staff, and people from Apple Daily will have priority.

Once critical of Apple Daily, the platform's founder, actor Chapman To, 49, developed a warm relationship with the newspaper after 2014.

The star of movies including the Infernal Affairs trilogy performed for Apple Daily at its 2019 spring reception.

"I used to hate Apple Daily when I was young and wished it would shut down," To said in a Facebook post.

"But now I believe supporting freedom of the press is more important than my personal privacy and prestige."

To, who until a fallout in 2006 was a co-host of Commercial Radio's On a Clear Day, launched Chapman To's Late Show in 2018, which gained a following for its satire and edgy content.

Identified as a pro-democracy personality, To currently lives in Taiwan, but the recruitment is for his company in Hong Kong, which is hiring a production manager and a staff member for social media and online store customer services.
