President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo), Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, praised the achievements of the seventh-term LegCo Commission at its final meeting on Monday (Oct 13), ahead of its prorogation.
Leung stated that as the LegCo transitioned from chaos to order, the Commission had wholeheartedly fulfilled its statutory functions, with results that were “clear for all to see”.
In a social media post, Leung highlighted one of the Commission’s key achievements, including the expansion of the Legislative Council Complex, which was completed six months ahead of schedule.
He noted that this would allow the use of new offices for at least one year before the current LegCo term concludes, enabling all lawmakers and Secretariat staff to work "under the same roof" for the first time.
Meanwhile, the Commission has overseen the Secretariat's completion of at least 40 major facility enhancements at the LegCo Complex to meet the needs of the increased total of 90 lawmakers.
With the Commission's support, the Secretariat has also streamlined its workflow and organizational structure by flexibly deploying staff.
For instance, more young secretaries with potential have been assigned to work in non-Council business divisions, to gain experience in different fields and enhance their skills.
The Commission has also advocated for the establishment of an AI governance policy framework for the LegCo, aiming to enhance work efficiency and service quality while ensuring the safe and responsible use of the technology.
Other achievements include the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities for one-third of the parking spaces in the complex's underground car park, to encourage the building's users to adopt eco-friendly vehicles.
Furthermore, paper usage in the complex decreased by 17 percent last year, while the volume of waste paper recycling increased significantly by about 86 percent this year.
