The affected products came from a Mixue ice cream and tea shop in Nina Plaza II and a DON DON DONKI outlet in Ocean Pride shopping mall. Testing revealed coliform levels of 1,600 and 330 per gram respectively, both exceeding the 100-coliform legal threshold.
The retailers have been instructed to stop sales and discard the affected products. The Centre has provided food safety education to staff and required thorough cleaning and disinfection at both premises.
Under Hong Kong's Frozen Confections Regulation, violations can result in maximum penalties of HK$10,000 fines and three months' imprisonment. The Centre emphasized that elevated coliform levels indicate unsatisfactory hygiene conditions rather than direct food poisoning risk, though investigations continue.
