The theft came to light around 7.20am today when a food courier reported the incident to authorities, explaining that he had briefly set down the orders—valued at roughly HK$800 and sourced from upscale Central eateries—on a long bench at the bus stop on Plaza Lane while making his rounds.
Moments later, the bags had vanished, and he spotted a man speeding off in a taxi, prompting suspicions of a brazen grab-and-go.
Officers rushed to the scene to probe the matter, but could not arrest the perpetrator and are currently searching for one man suspected to be related to the case.
Social media quickly lit up with images from bystanders who observed the police activity, stating that at around 5am today there was a taxi driver in the area who nabbed the takeaway and fled the scene.
It also pointed out that the security camera had recorded footage of the crime, along with there being receipts of the meal.
Police are currently looking for the taxi driver involved.
