The Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing is commemorating its 25th anniversary with a 10-day interactive exhibition titled “Echoes of Memory: An Interactive Journey,” running from October 1 to October 10, at D•PARK in Tsuen Wan.
Launched today with an opening ceremony attended by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han, Club Steward Bernard Chan, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health Dr. Lam Ching-choi, and other guests. The event aims to raise public awareness about dementia and its 14 risk factors through accessible and engaging activities.
The exhibition features five interactive zones where visitors can explore brain functions, experience simulated scenarios reflecting the daily challenges of dementia, and learn about the center’s 25-year history, all free of charge to encourage widespread participation.
Established in 2000 through a collaboration between the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Hospital Authority, the center was Hong Kong’s first comprehensive one-stop service hub for dementia care. It has since provided nearly 400,000 residential, respite, and day care services, empowering individuals with dementia and their caregivers with innovative care models, professional training, and research opportunities to foster a dementia-friendly community.
The Jockey Club has supported over 30 dementia-related initiatives, including a current territory-wide project in partnership with seven NGOs.
This initiative focuses on early diagnosis and support for individuals with mild cognitive impairment or early-stage dementia, aiming to benefit around 9,600 people and their caregivers over three and a half years through medical-social collaboration in primary healthcare settings.
The centre’s efforts, like all Jockey Club community initiatives, are funded through its unique business model, which leverages racing and responsible sports wagering to generate significant charity contributions and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.
