Third worker dies suddenly at Kwu Tung construction site in a week

A 43-year-old draftsman was found dead in a toilet at a Kwu Tung construction site today, marking the third sudden death of a worker in the area within a week, as police investigate the causes amid growing concerns.

A tragic series of incidents has struck construction sites in Kwu Tung, with the latest occurring around noon today when a 43-year-old man surnamed So was discovered collapsed in a toilet at a residential development site on Pak Sau Road. 

Emergency responders arrived but confirmed the man, a draftsman for a construction company, had already passed away. 

Known to have a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, the man had appeared normal while speaking with colleagues earlier that morning before he suddenly went missing. 

A colleague later found him unconscious in the restroom. Police have classified the case as a sudden death, pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause.

This incident follows two other recent deaths in the area. 

Last Friday (Sep 26), a 45-year-old worker surnamed Ho collapsed at a public housing project site in Kwu Tung North’s Area 19 around 10am.

He had complained of dizziness and chills to the site manager shortly after arriving at work. 

Found semi-conscious in a toilet, he was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. 

His widow, who recently arrived in Hong Kong on a one-way permit earlier this month, was devastated as she identified his body at the morgue today, accompanied by relatives. 

Left to care for elderly parents and three children, she now faces an uncertain future without her husband’s support.

Another incident occurred on Saturday (Sep 27) when a man in his sixties collapsed at a construction site on Ho Sheung Heung Road, suspected of suffering from heatstroke while waiting outdoors for a delivery truck. 

He was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, with an autopsy pending to confirm the cause of death.
