Super Typhoon Ragasa is approaching Hong Kong and is expected to pass about 100 kilometers south of the territory early Wednesday morning. Significant storm surge has caused rapid water level rises along Hong Kong's coastline, resulting in seawater flooding in Heng Fa Chuen and Shing Mun River in Sha Tin, with multiple roads inundated.
Online videos show seawater rushing into the areas between buildings at Heng Fa Chuen, turning open spaces outside residential blocks into flooded areas. Roads near Metro City Plaza have experienced severe flooding, forcing vehicles to navigate through water. The water level at Shing Mun River in Sha Tin has also risen rapidly, with seawater overflowing onto adjacent cycle paths.
The Hong Kong Observatory indicated that significant storm surge is affecting the region, predicting water levels to rise approximately 2 to 3 meters along Hong Kong's coastline today. Water levels are expected to peak around noon, generally reaching about 4 meters above chart datum, while Tolo Harbour levels may reach up to 5 meters above chart datum.
