After over four decades on Ning Po Street in Jordan, the Michelin-guided Kai Kai Dessert has closed its original flagship store and relocated to Parkes Street, where it aims to carry on its legacy of serving beloved traditional sweet soups in a fresh, modern setting.
The dessert shop announced the closure in a social media post on Wednesday, alongside exciting news of its expansion to Hong Kong Island.
The new Parkes Street location is set to open by the end of this month.
“We look forward to sharing a bowl of unchanged sweetness with you at our new home, and reminiscing about the stories from the street corners of Jordan,” the shop said.
As for its first branch on Hong Kong Island, Kai Kai revealed it will be located in Causeway Bay and is planned to open around the same time as the Parkes Street shop.
A cherished dessert institution for over 45 years, Kai Kai Dessert is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic traditional sweet soup specialists.
Renowned for its wide array of classic Chinese desserts – including stone-ground sesame paste, almond cream, and walnut cream – all offered at accessible prices, it has maintained a loyal following across generations and counts superstar Chow Yun-fat among its admirers.
The shop has been recommended by the Michelin Guide as a Street Food icon for nine consecutive years running.
