The Hong Kong Jockey Club has pledged HK$70.75 million through its Charities Trust to launch the Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme, a three-year initiative to bring basketball to more children and young people, particularly from underprivileged communities.
The programme, rolled out in partnership with InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports), The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), aims to boost physical and mental well-being while fostering personal growth through sports.
The initiative was officially launched today at a kick-off ceremony held at Tai Kwun. Notable attendees included Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Chief Executive Officer of The Hong Kong Jockey Club; Hsu Siu-man, Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups; Billie Lau, Executive Director of The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong; and Yasmin Fong, Board Member of InspiringHK Sports Foundation.
During the event, the Club’s CEO, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, announced ambitious plans to expand sports development in Hong Kong. “We want to do even more for sports,” he said. “Over the next three years, we plan to double our funding, committing HK$3 billion to sports and sports development.”
The Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme will focus on making basketball accessible to students and underserved groups, offering opportunities for skill-building, teamwork, and personal development through the sport.
