Public housing estate residents hailed the Housing Department’s introduction of artificial intelligence to combat illegal parking and the use of drones to enhance maintenance efficiency.
Ms Lee, who lives in a public rental housing estate, said that illegal parking in the estate used to be serious, especially during Lunar New Year, when many people visited estate residents, causing the estate to be full of parked cars and obstructing other vehicles.
She once witnessed an elderly resident forced to walk five minutes to hail a taxi due to parked cars blocking the estate entrance.
“Since the implementation of the AI monitoring system, the situation has greatly improved. Security guards can now quickly arrive and urge offending drivers to leave,” Ms Lee said.

Another resident, Mr Lee, believes the monitoring system helps collect evidence, making it difficult for offending drivers to deny their violations.
Resident Na Na also said that using drones to assist in inspecting external walls makes the detection of cracks or abnormal conditions easier. The entire process is relatively safe, enhancing the safety level of workflows.
Other residents in the same estate also noted that drone inspections shorten lift maintenance time and minimize inconveniences for residents
