Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has admitted nine of the city’s most promising athletes for the upcoming academic year, offering them tailored support to help them succeed in both their studies and their sporting careers.
Hong Kong Baptist University has enrolled nine elite athletes into its undergraduate programs for the 2025/26 academic year through the Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme (TADAS).
The students have distinguished themselves in a diverse range of sports, including athletics, basketball, fencing, gymnastics, karate, taekwondo, para dance sports, wheelchair basketball, volleyball, and wushu.
The university has committed to providing these student-athletes with a comprehensive “3S” support system, designed to offer holistic assistance in their studies, sports training, and personal growth.
This initiative aims to help them adapt to university life and excel simultaneously in their academic and athletic pursuits.
The cohort includes notable athletes such as Tsang Cho-kiu, a three-time gold medalist at the World Junior Wushu Championships, who will study in the Bachelor of Science program.
Other recruits, including a bronze medalist from the Asian Karate Championships and a gold medalist from the Hong Kong 2025 Para Dance Sport International Competition, will join programs like the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management and the newly launched Bachelor of Arts in Sports Industry Management.
A representative from HKBU’s Academy of Wellness and Human Development stated that the university is deeply committed to supporting Hong Kong's athletes and sports development. He explained that TADAS reflects the institution's dedication to nurturing talent that excels in both academia and sport, backed by a robust support system that provides professional academic guidance and training resources.
To familiarize the new students with the available support, the Department of Sports and Health Sciences hosted an orientation day earlier this month.
The event introduced the “3S Comprehensive Support System,” which encompasses flexible study plans tailored to competition schedules, access to advanced sports science facilities for training analysis, and personal growth guidance, including psychological counseling and career development workshops.
One of the incoming student-athletes expressed honor at being admitted and confidence that the scheme’s professional support would enable a successful balance between university studies and high-level training.
HKBU established its Elite Athletes Admission Scheme in 2016 and enhanced it to TADAS in 2022.
The scheme is designed for local athletes who have represented Hong Kong in major competitions, achieved significant rankings, or are retired athletes with outstanding past results.
Those admitted receive scholarships and personalized resources to foster their dual career development. A scholarship presentation ceremony to honor the nine new students is scheduled for October.
