The Airport Authority has unveiled a new indoor coach hall at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the first facility to open as part of the expanded Terminal 2 (T2). The hall is scheduled to commence its first phase of operations on September 23.
The tourism industry was invited to a preview of the facility on Monday (Aug 25). The coach hall features 41 parking spaces dedicated to tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, and resident coaches.
To serve travelers, at least three dining establishments have already been installed in the hall, including Orchid Padaria Café, Tong Kee Bao Dim, and a two-dish rice shop.
The area will also feature a 7-Eleven convenience store and souvenir retailers such as Okashiland and Hang Heung Cake Shop.
According to a previous statement from the Airport Authority, the expanded T2 will incorporate more self-service facilities, including smart check-in kiosks and self bag drop services.
In the future, passengers will be able to take an automated people mover to the T2 concourse for boarding, which is situated between the north and middle runways.
The check-in counters for 15 airlines, including HK Express, Hong Kong Airlines, and several Southeast Asian carriers, are expected to relocate from Terminal 1 to T2. This move is planned for as early as March to April next year.
This relocation is anticipated to divert approximately 15 million passengers through T2 annually, accounting for about 20 percent of the airport's total passenger traffic.
