Hong Kong has been awarded the hosting rights for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in both 2026 and 2027, with the events set to take place at the Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O, bolstering the city's status as a major hub for international sports and boosting its "event economy."
The Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China, has announced that it has secured the hosting rights for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup for the next two years.
The competitions will be held at the Hong Kong Velodrome in Tseung Kwan O.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) unveiled the schedule for the World Cup from 2026 to 2028, confirming that the Hong Kong, China round is set for April 17–19, 2026, and April 23–25, 2027.
The 2027 event will also serve as a qualifying competition for the Los Angeles Olympics.
Leung Hung-tak, chairman of the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China, stated that hosting world-class events helps enhance Hong Kong’s international image and attracts overseas visitors.
This is expected to benefit local hotels, restaurants, retailers, and the broader tourism sector, further boosting the city’s "event economy."
He also emphasized that having Olympic qualifying races on home turf provides a significant advantage for the Hong Kong team as they vie for spots in the Games.
Hong Kong has previously hosted the UCI Track Cycling World Cup three times.
After the event was renamed the Nations Cup, it was also held in Hong Kong in 2021 and 2024. Next year, the competition will revert to the World Cup title.
